M1 Processor

Here you can find instructions on how to see if you have an M1 processor in your Mac computer.

With Apple's new M1 processor, there have been some limitations compared to intel processors. Those limitations include virtualization software such as VMWare Fusion and Parallels, which do not work on M1s.

It is uncertain when a version that will work for Windows 10 will be released, but there is a version for Linux that supports this. Furthermore, the new M1 Macs do not support Bootcamp.

How to see if you own a Mac with a M1 processor

  • Click the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen
  • Choose About this Mac
  • In the overview you will be able to see which processor your computer has.

If it says Processor: xxx Intel Core, it means that your Mac has an Intel-processor, and it is therefore an intel-based Mac. However, if it says Chip: Apple M1, it means that your Mac has an M1 processor which might result in you experiencing certain limitations regarding software.
