On this site, you will be able to find useful information regarding Heimdal Security, which is a cyber security platform that protects against harmful websites, among other things. Furthermore, you can find instructions on how to give yourself admin privileges in Heimdal as an employee at AAU.

If it is your first time using Heimdal, you must request the right for admin privileges

You only need to complete this step once. 

Before being able to get admin privileges, you need to create a case on the Serviceportal, where you request this.

In your mail to support please include:  

  • The number of your AAU-PC
  • The reason for why you need admin privileges

Get admin privileges for one hour with Heimdal 

Elevate the rights on your computer 

  • Click the arrow which points upwards in your process line 
  • Right-click on the Heimdal icon (the icon looks like a viking – see picture below)
    • If the Heimdal icon is not available in your process line, we advise you to go to a local service desk to re-install your PC.  
  • Choose Privileges & App Control
  • Click Request Admin Privileges 
  • Write a short description for why you need admin privileges 
  • Click Elevate 

You have now gained admin privileges for one hour, and you will automatically get a notification, when you no longer have the rights. 

Please note: Even though you have admin privileges, you might experience to get a pop-up window called User Account Control. In this window, you need to enter your log in information (AAU-Username and password). 

How to run an installation with admin privileges 

  • Right-click on the file which you want to run 
  • Choose Run with AdminPrivilege

 

Now the program is running with admin privilege. Please note that programs which are stated with admin privilege do not automatically shut down after one hour. We recommend that you close the program when you no longer need the access.
