Configuration settings

If you are a student or a member of staff at Aalborg University, you can create your device at net.aau.dk.

  • Please visit net.aau.dk
    (Use the open network AAU, if you don't have access to the internet)
  • Login with your AAU username address and password.
  • Click "Create device".
  • Name your device.
  • Click "Create".
  • Follow the installation instructions.
  • If you want to connect with another device, repeat the procedure.

Setup on computer

    After you have created your MacOS device at net.aau.dk, please use the installation link you find at that page for automatic setup.

    Ubuntu Linux

    After you have created your ubuntu device at net.aau.dk, please use the installationlink you find at that page for automatic setup.

    eduroam for Chromebook

    Open the webpage http://ca.wifi.aau.dk and download the certificate.

    Click Settings -> Advanced -> HTTPS and Certificats -> Authorities
    and import the certificate you just downloaded.

    The WIFI settings must be:

    • EAP method = PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentification = MSCHAPV2
    • CA certificate = AAU (the name of the certificate you saved)

    To run the installation as administrator: right click on the exe file and select “run as administrator”.

    Did you remember to include the username you've got from net.aau.dk?

    Perhaps you entered the wrong password? You should use the password you've got from net.aau.dk

    If you cannot connect to eduroam but have previously been able to do so, please download and reinstall the configuration file, you may need to install the file as administrator (see above).

    Disable any antivirus, firewall and Wi-Fi help software. If necessary uninstall them.

    It may be a good idea to disable the power saving mode of your wireless card. The power saving mode allows your device to save power by disconnecting to the wireless network. Disabling power save on Windows computers:

    • Go to the Start menu
    • Select Control panel -> Network and Sharing
    • Select “Change adapter settings”
    • Right click on “Wireless network connection” and select Properties
    • Select Configure
    • Select Power Management
    • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Setup on mobile devices

    eduroam for Android


    • Open the Chrome browser, and type ca.wifi.aau.dk (or click this link).
    • Install the certificate and name it AAU.
      It is very important to select Wi-Fi, not VPN in the drop down menu.
    • Connect to eduroam.

    Adroid devices may look very different. If you get the opportunity, please youse the following settings:

    • EAP method = PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication = MSCHAPV2
    • CA certificate = AAU
    • Identity = username from net.aau.dk
    • Password = password from net.aau.dk

    If you are offered other fields, leave them blank.




    Q: I cannot download the certificate, because I have no internet connection.
    A: You can connect to our open network AAU, to download the certificate. 

    Q: I cannot install the certificate.
    A: The installation will not work with Firefox, you must use Chrome.

    Q: I cannot select AAU as "CA certificate".
    A: You have installed it as a VPN certificate. Install it again as a Wi-Fi certificate.

    Q: I cannot connect.
    A: Make sure that you have not included an additional space in your username. Auto-correction automatically adds an a trailing space.

    Q: I still cannot connect.
    A: Please visit a help-desk

    eduroam for Windows Phone

    After you have created your Windows phone at net.aau.dk, please download the AAU's certificate:

    Your phone will download the certificate and you see the message "iesca.ser completed"

    • Open Settings
    • Open Network & wireless
    • Open WiFi

    Wait until the phone has found available networks.

    • Choose eduroam
    • Fill in the username you've got from net.aau.dk.
    • Fill in the password you've go from net.aau.dk.
    • Make sure that 'Server certificate validation' is set to 'Certificate authority'
    • Click at 'choose a certificate'.
    • Choose 'Aalborg Universitet, Institut for Elektroniske Systemer'
    • Make sure that 'PEAP MS-CHAP v2' is your EAP method.
    • Click 'Done'.



    If you get an error when loggin in

    • Restart your phone.
