Remote Desktop

Manual for remote desktop

ITS are providing, as a complement to your personal computer, a remote desktop. The Remote Desktop can be used in situations where you do not have access to your PC, or when you need to use software/systems which are not supported on your PC configuration.

The Remote Desktop can be used no matter where you are in the world, from the vast majority of types of devices, including mobile phones, and it is available for both staff and students.

The Remote Desktop comes in two types, depending on your needs.

  • AAU-Remote, which comes with the latest software and versions, and
  • Administrative-Remote, where software is adapted to operate with AAU’s administrative and study-administrative systems.

In the table in the list below you can see the software and systems that are supported on the different platforms.

We try to keep our Remote Desktop synchronised with our AAU standard PC solutions, but as the technologies are different, minor differences may occur.

Note: Access to the Remote Desktop through the internet requires the two-factor authentication to use the recommended two-factor setup with Microsoft Authenticator App. If you use other two-factor authentication methods, you can log on to the VPN, from where no additional two-factor authentication is needed to access the Remote Desktop.

NOTE

The servers are intended for interactive use. For jobs that are particularly resource intensive with long running times, or jobs which must not be interrupted, we refer you to scientific computing (http://www.en.its.aau.dk/instructions/scientific-computing).

If special software must be used and/or made available to students for educational activities, please contact ITS Support in order to design an appropriate solution.

ITS reserve the right to, without warning, abort all processes or connections to the server.
